Doha_ Libya has signed the Mecca Convention on Combating Corruption along with 21 other member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The signing ceremony took place in Doha, Qatar on Thursday during the second ministerial meeting of anti-corruption law enforcement agencies in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Libya was represented by the Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, Mr. Abdullah Kaderbouh during the two-day gathering on 26-27 November.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation stated in a statement that the number of signatures was a historic event that will contribute to accelerating steps to ratify the convention and enter it into force.
“Such number of signatures reflects the member states’ awareness of the danger of corruption and the crimes associated with it, and their keenness to enhance cooperation in the field of combating it,” the Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported.
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation urged the rest of the member states to take the initiative to sign and ratify the Mecca Convention in order to enforce anti-corruption laws. The convention provides an important framework for cooperation in order to confront the widespread dangerous scourge.
There remains other related agreements and regulations that need to be ratified so that the organization can expand the scope of cooperation in all fields.
