Tripoli_ Libya’s General Prosecutor has order on Thursday the detention of a former diplomat who worked at the Libyan embassy in Cairo for violating public funds’ regulations.
The former Acting Financial Controller had deliberately disposed of millions of pounds in violation of the governing rules and violated the requirements of reviewing financial operations and examining their compatibility with financial laws. He, therefore, caused severe damage to public money, the General Prosecutor’s office said in a statement published on its Facebook page.
Thus, the statement added “the investigator ended up ordering the accused to be remanded in custody.”
As a result of the lack of strong supervision and control over Libyan embassies around the world, inexperienced diplomats and officials at these mission found it easier most of the time get away with breaking of laws and regulations of the Foreign Ministry and International Cooperation.
