“We are committed to strengthening Libya’s border management systems and contributing to the country’s overall stability and prosperity,” said the European Borders Assistance Mission in Libya (EUPAM) in a press release on Monday.
It said that the Libyan Customs Authority (LCA) concluded a successful Risk Management Training program that marked a significant milestone in enhancing border security and trade facilitation.
Alessio Zuccarini, EUPAM Libya Head of Operations, said, “we commend the participants for their hard work and dedication. Their expertise is vital to securing Libya’s future. To our partners in the LCA, thank you for your trust and collaboration,” according to the release.
“Together, we are building a robust border management system that will benefit Libya for generations to come. Let us continue to work hand-in-hand, driven by a shared vision of a secure and prosperous Libya,” he added.
Libya, however, remains mired and embroiled in a state of instability, violence and an economic disaster for so many years, with little hope that such situation could be changed soon.
In her remarks to the UN Security Council on 20 August 2024, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Stephanie Koury said: “Over the past two months, the situation in Libya has deteriorated quite rapidly in terms of political, economic and security stability. Unilateral acts by Libyan political military and security actors have increased tension, further entrenched
