Assad Regime Toppled, Israel Destroys Army, Institutions

Damascus_ The Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad was finally toppled by Turkish and Western-backed rebel jihadists who have been trying to do so since 2011. In the early hours of Sunday 8 December 2024, Assad fled with his family to Russia as the armed groups entered the capital Damascus.

In violation of international law, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday declared the termination of the 1974 separation of forces agreement between Israel and Syria and moved forces to occupy Syrian territories. The agreement created a buffer zone between the Syrian and Israeli armies monitored by a UN peacekeeping mission following the 1973 October War.

The lightening advance of the jihadist that started by seizing of the major cities in north Syrian including the city of Aleppo near the Turkish border, then Hama, Homs culminating with the fall of the capital Damascus in the early hours of Sunday 8 December 2024.

The Syrian army did not fight the attackers and announced its withdrawal from strategic cities one after the other allowing them to take control of these cities with minimum bloodshed.

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Bashar Assad had stepped down as Syrian president and left the country following negotiations with armed opposition groups.

On Monday, Israeli warplanes carried out dozens of attacks across Syria, including in the capital, Damascus. Three military bases housing dozens of helicopters and aircraft were destroyed by Israel. the Qamishli air base in the northeast, Shinshar base near Homs and Aqrba airport southwest Damascus were all struck.

Media reports say the Zionist state made over 150 strikes on government buildings and institutions. It destroyed several Syrian military vessels which were sunk in their home port. Israel also attacked on Monday night the so-called Security Square in downtown Damascus that includes the intelligence and customs buildings among other Syrian people’s assets.

The leader who led the attack on the Syrian regime is Abu Mohammed al-Julani whose real name is Ahmad Hussein al-Shara, the head of the Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham (HTS) jihadist group. The HTS was previously known as Jabhat al-Nusra and was once Syria’s branch of al Qaeda.

The US, Russia, Syria, Iran, the UN, and most of the international community have designated him and his organization as a terrorist group.

In addition, the US-sponsored Free Syrian Army (FSA) has taken control of the ancient site of Palmyra, while the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) also backed by the US have seized Deir ez-Zor in the east of the country.

At the present all Syrian military and economic resources are under Israeli attacks and it is not knowing yet what these Syrian “revolutionaries” will be doing regarding this grave and dangerous matter to them and to their own beloved country.
