Tripoli_ Libyans who reside in South Korea need to exercise caution as the East Asian country enters a period of political chaos because of deepening conflict between the current South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol pushing him to declare martial law early Wednesday morning.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Government of National Unity called on all citizens present in the Republic of South Korea to exercise the highest levels of caution and care due to the exceptional circumstances the country is going through,” said a statement issued by the Ministry and quoted by the Libyan News Agency LANA.

Libyan citizens should obey instructions issued by the authorities in South Korea and not leave their homes except in cases of extreme necessity, the statement added.

The Libyan embassy in Seoul has been instructed to provide all forms of urgent assistance and services to citizens in order to overcome the consequences of the current events.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has lifted the shortly declared martial law order which plunged the country into political uncertainty.

As a reason of his surprise act, Yoon cited a motion by the opposition Democratic Party, which has a majority in parliament, to impeach top prosecutors and reject a government budget proposal.

The lifting of martial law came after 190 lawmakers present in the South Korean National Assembly chamber in Seoul unanimously blocked the president’s move.

“After the National Assembly’s demand to lift martial law, martial law troops have been withdrawn, Yoon told his country on live TV. “I will accept the National Assembly’s demand and lift martial law through a cabinet meeting, he added.”
