Libya: Lukashenko: ‘We are Ready to Help in Any Way We Can’

MINSK—Meeting today with the Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said “Belarus is ready to develop cooperation with Libya” and that everything both parties agree on would be implemented on time.

Mr. Haftar arrived in Minsk Monday evening to meet with President Lukashenko for the first time. He was accompanied with an official delegation that included senior officers from the LNA.

“Mr. Haftar, I would like you to feel at home here and to consider us your friends. I have read and heard a lot about you. But, unfortunately, I have never met you before,” President Lukashenko his Libyan guest as quoted by the Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA).

“I want you to know that we are well informed about the situation in Libya, we know Libya very well. I have a special attitude towards your people,” and “you should know that we are ready to help you in every way we can,” Lukashenko stressed.

According to the media office of the LNA’s General Command, the two men discussed ways and means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields and they reviewed the “the regional and international issues of common interest, in a way that strengthens strategic interests of both parties”.

“Everything we will agree on today, during the days of your stay in Belarus, will be implemented on time. Therefore, let me welcome you and all members of your delegation to Belarus. We are ready to work,” the Belarusian leader added as quoted by BelTA.

For his part, Marshal Khalifa Haftar emphasized that he was also glad to have such meeting: “We are very glad to be here. Thank you very much for the invitation. We are willing to cooperate.”

He praised the progress achieved by the Republic of Belarus in the technical, industrial and agricultural fields, stressing that it has become an example to be followed in the path of development and modernity, which reflects the ambitious vision of its leadership.

It is worth noting that the LNA is currently supervising a number of agricultural projects in east and southeast, including the Ghot Al-Sultan livestock project of milk and meat products. It is located in Al-Abyar municipality about 65 kms southeast the city of Benghazi.
